ECC clears export of donkey meat, hides from Gwadar Free Zone

ISLAMABAD, Sept 8 (Gwadar Pro) - The Pakistani government on Monday afternoon cleared a long-standing issue concerning the export of donkey meat and hides from the Gwadar Free Zone, marking another step towards expanding commercial activity in the strategic zone developed under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The decision was taken by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet, which approved the proposal with the safeguards recommended by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research, paving the way for exports from the free zone subject to the prescribed regulatory and safety requirements.

The decision also reflects efforts to address regulatory and administrative hurdles affecting businesses operating from the Gwadar Free Zone and facilitate greater utilisation of the zone’s facilities.

The matter was among several economic proposals considered by the ECC at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.

The move could provide an additional avenue for commercial activity in Gwadar, where Pakistan has been seeking to develop export-oriented industries and strengthen the zone’s role in regional trade under the broader CPEC framework.
