More than 10 development projects completed in Gwadar

The Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) has completed more than 10 infrastructure and development projects during the current fiscal year 2026-2027.

Prominent projects include the Sorg Dil Ground; Young Jan Volleyball and Futsal Ground; construction and blacktopping of Demi Zar Road; structural works on seven link roads at East Bay; construction and blacktopping of Ustad Abdul Majeed Gwaderi Road from Javed Complex to Marine Drive; construction and blacktopping of roads from Marine Drive to the northern and southern sections of Eidgah; construction and blacktopping of the road from Marine Drive to Shaheen Chowk via DHQ Hospital Road; and drainage outlet and street works from Thana Ward to Airport Road.

Similarly, construction and paving of the road from Shaheen Chowk to Ustad Abdul Majeed Gwaderi Road, street works in Model School Ward, construction and blacktopping of the road from the C&W Office to RCD Highway in Gwadar, provision of furniture for the Government Girls High School and Boys High School, and rehabilitation works at Eidgah have also been completed.

In this regard, two important meetings were held under the chairmanship of Gwadar Development Authority (GDA) Director General Moin ur Rehman Khan, during which the detailed physical and financial progress of ongoing projects was reviewed.

The meetings were attended by GDA Chief Engineer Haji Syed Muhammad, Director Town Planning Shahid Ali, Superintending Engineer Roads, Controller Building Nadir Baloch, Project Director Water Mir Jaan Baloch, Project Director Old Town Rehabilitation Project Mir Doda Khan Mari, Director Finance Abdul Shakoor, and other engineers and relevant officers.

The first part of the meeting was devoted to a meeting of the Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP), the authorized forum for approving the GDA’s own development projects. After reviewing various development schemes, several projects were approved, including the construction and rehabilitation of Marine Drive from Governor House to Pishukan, raising and rehabilitation of the Central Park boundary wall, construction of the GDA Club boundary wall, allied works for the under-construction causeway on Marine Drive, construction of a causeway at Surbandar, and other development projects.

Approval of the drip irrigation project on Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi Road was made conditional upon the availability of funds. In the second part of the meeting, the financial and physical progress of various ongoing development projects under the GDA was reviewed in detail. The issues and obstacles being faced in completing the projects, as well as necessary measures to address them, were also discussed.

Project Director Old Town Rehabilitation Project Mir Doda Khan Mari briefed the meeting that, under the Old Town Rehabilitation Project, priority has been given to the construction of an integrated road network in the old city, street paving in various wards, upgrading of Shahi Bazaar and Jannat Bazaar, renovation of Eidgah, rehabilitation of football, futsal and volleyball grounds, upgrading of basic health centers and educational institutions, construction of a boundary wall and prayer area at the cemetery, façade works, and the Model Mohalla Project, among various other sectors.

Project Director Water Mir Jaan Baloch briefed the meeting that several water-supply projects in different villages of Kalanch have been completed and water supply has commenced. Similarly, work on the sewage treatment plant (STP) at Central Park is almost complete, while construction of another new STP is also being initiated.

Executive Engineer Qasim Baloch stated that construction of the causeway on Marine Drive has entered its final stages, while work on the Surbandar Causeway will commence soon. Work is also underway on the construction of a direct drainage-water outlet to Demi Zar to improve drainage in front of Bilal Mosque.

On the occasion, GDA Director General Moin ur Rehman Khan directed that transparency, strict supervision, timely completion, public interest, and all requirements of engineering design and quality must be ensured in all development projects.

He expressed displeasure over complaints received regarding certain ongoing development works under the Old Town Rehabilitation Project and directed the concerned engineers to ensure their presence at project sites and effectively supervise the ongoing works. He made it clear that no negligence or lapse in the quality or pace of development projects would be tolerated.

The Director General further directed that prescribed standards, engineering specifications, and construction quality must be strictly adhered to in all projects so that sustainable, high-quality, and durable facilities can be provided to the public.
