BOAO, Mar 27 (Gwadar Pro) - Former Pakistani Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi underscored Pakistan's potential mediation role in the ongoing U.S.-Israel war on Iran, rooted in its close ties with these nations and its status as Iran's immediate neighbor, while speaking to Chinese media on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference 2026.
He emphasized the attack on Iran directly endangers Pakistan's security and regional stability, noting it has now taken on a global dimension. "It is an unprovoked war against Iran. There is not any knowledge or any proof that Iran is pursuing a nuclear program," he added.
"Pakistan is in a very significant position to play a role here. It is a difficult proposition, but as a neighbor and a friendly country that has relations with the U.S., Gulf countries, and Iran, we can play a role here, and we must try to play that role," he stated, echoing Pakistan's long-standing commitment to regional peace, while backing multilateralism and the Global South's pivotal role.
