China disburses $2 million for Punjab development cooperation
ISLAMABAD, Nov 3 (Gwadar Pro) — China has released a new tranche of US$2 million under an Economic and Technical Cooperation initiative to support development projects in Punjab, according to Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The funding, part of China’s ongoing assistance to provincial programmes, aims to strengthen technical infrastructure and institutional capacity in the province, and promote capacity-building partnerships between Pakistan and China.
For the quarter ending September 2025, total Chinese disbursements to Pakistan amounted to US$9.75 million, covering both grants and concessional financing.
Ongoing Chinese-funded projects include the reconstruction of schools in Bara District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (US$4.47 million), housing construction in Balochistan (US$6 million), and the New Generation Geodetic Datum of Pakistan (US$1.08 million), a mapping project to modernise national data systems.
China also continues to back large-scale ventures such as the relocation of the Karakoram Highway’s Thakot–Raikot section, the Pakistan Space Centre, and the China–Pakistan Joint Research Centre on Earth Sciences at Quaid-e-Azam University.
