ISLAMABAD, May 7 (Gwadar Pro)-In light of the recent tensions between India and Pakistan, Chinese scholars on Tuesday called for restraint, emphasizing the urgent need for calm, cooperation, and diplomatic engagement between the two South Asian neighbors.

Stressing that sustained peace and stability in the region can only be achieved through constructive dialogue, they urged both countries to move away from confrontation and adopt a collaborative approach to resolve their longstanding disputes. The scholars highlighted that mutual respect, open communication, and joint efforts against shared challenges-such as terrorism-are essential for fostering regional harmony and long-term prosperity.

The message was delivered by Professor Zhang Qingmin, Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Diplomacy at Peking University, during the second day of three-day international conference titled “Pathways to Peace and Prosperity in Turbulent Times,” hosted by the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) in Islamabad.

In response to a question from Gwadar Pro, Professor Zhang emphasized the need for collective solutions, stating that the India-Pakistan conflict should be viewed as “a conflict between two brothers who share a common origin.” He firmly rejected war as an option, stressing that both countries have suffered from terrorism and should join forces to combat it.

“China does not support any form of militarization,” Zhang stated. “We urge both governments to adopt a balanced approach and join hands in fighting shared challenges. Blaming each other will not bring peace-cooperation will.”

His remarks echoed the broader theme of the conference, which focused on promoting peaceful coexistence and regional stability through dialogue and mutual respect. Other speakers also called for multilateral engagement to address regional conflicts and economic challenges.

A key session of the conference, “China’s Vision for Modernization: Prospects for Regional Prosperity,” explored China's development trajectory and its implications for the region. Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed, Chairman of the Pakistan-China Institute (PCI), praised China’s rapid progress in science and technology.

“China is becoming a global scientific superpower, surpassing the United States in areas like digital technology, AI, engineering, and mathematics,” he said, adding that this transformation is reshaping global dynamics and offering new paths for regional development.
