PIA launches direct Lahore-Baku flights to promote tourism
Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has officially launched direct flights from Lahore to Baku, marking a significant step in enhancing international connectivity and promoting tourism.
A special ceremony was held at Allama Iqbal International Airport to mark the occasion, attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Khazar Farhadov, Secretary Defence Major General (R) Aamir Ashfaq Kayani, and other officials.
The event featured a cake-cutting ceremony and special gifts for passengers aboard the inaugural flight.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, addressing the ceremony, highlighted the positive outcomes of the government’s recent diplomatic efforts and emphasized that the economy is moving towards growth under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership.
The inaugural flight departed with 174 passengers on board. PIA will now operate two weekly flights between Lahore and Baku, aiming to strengthen ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.
PIA described Baku as the "Europe of Asia," renowned for its unique architecture, rich cultural heritage, and vibrant cuisine.
Special arrangements were made by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to ensure a memorable launch.
