Gwadar Slaughterhouse Receives Quarantine Health Certificate

GWADAR, Mar. 10 (Gwadar Pro) - Last week Pakistan Animal Quarantine has granted certification to the Chinese company Hengeng Trading Enterprise, a pharmaceutical firm, allowing it to operate Pakistan’s first donkey slaughterhouse in the Gwadar North Free Zone.

The purpose of this certification is to regulate the import, export, and quarantine of animals and animal products to prevent the introduction or spread of diseases. According to the certification, animals or animal products intended for import or export must be quarantined under the supervision of a Quarantine Officer from the Government of Pakistan.

An official from the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR) told Gwadar Pro that although the company has secured the Animal Quarantine Health Certificate, the slaughterhouse will only begin operations after final approval is granted by the General Administration of Customs, China, in accordance with prescribed laws. China has already signed an agreement with Pakistan for the procurement of donkey hides and bones. He noted that exporting live animals presents logistical challenges and is less viable than exporting processed by-products.

An official from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs stated that donkeys reared on various farms across Punjab will be slaughtered at the state-of-the-art facility in the Gwadar North Free Zone. “Their meat and skin will be processed according to international standards and later exported to China,” he added.

In response to a query, he explained that the Gwadar North Free Zone donkey slaughterhouse will introduce advanced slaughtering technology in Pakistan, ensuring high-quality, disease-free donkey meat with proper preservation through a cold chain system.
