ISSI to boost China-Pakistan media collaboration for accurate news
ISLAMABAD, Oct 13 (Gwadar Pro) – In an aim to provide accurate and reliable news for local and international readers, the China-Pakistan Study Centre at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad (ISSI) will organise regular meetings that bring together local and international media to build research-based narratives focused on enhancing people-to-people relations, tourism, and other soft measures between Pakistan and China.
This effort was announced by ISSI director general Ambassador Sohail Mehmood at a media conference held in Islamabad on Friday.
During a discussion with Pakistani and Chinese media representatives, Mehmood emphasised that the public has the right to receive accurate news, not just in major cities but also in remote areas across all provinces. “To achieve this, we are working to collaborate with journalists from both countries, particularly those from smaller cities, to come to Islamabad and engage the Chinese media here.”
He highlighted the importance of regular sessions and collaboration to connect these media channels. Additionally, periodic training will be provided to distinguish between true and false news. “We must combat the negative propaganda against Chinese companies operating in Pakistan. Our think tank will also facilitate a fact-checking mechanism to verify the authenticity of the news,” he said.
Dr. Talat Shabbir, Director of the China-Pakistan Study Centre at ISSI, underscored the role of the entertainment media in highlighting the ongoing significance of Pak-China relations, particularly the CPEC projects. He noted the importance of raising awareness about the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) among the younger generation, who are more engaged in the entertainment industry. “Collaboration between the Pakistani and Chinese entertainment industries is crucial to fostering positivity among the people of the two countries,” he explained.
Representatives from Chinese and Pakistani media groups suggested incorporating local and on-ground correspondents in future meetings to receive their input and share the important national-level developments with them for dissemination among the public.
