Gwadar’s 300MW coal-fired power plant to get going soon
ISLAMABAD, July 25 (Gwadar Pro)- Chairman National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Tauseef H Farooqi on Monday said that the Authority will soon approve tariff for the 300 MWs imported coal-fired power plant for Gwadar.
The Chairman was responding to a question raised by a resident of Gwadar in question hour session during a 2-day Int'l conference held to commemorate the decade of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The resident complained that the port city of Gwadar, which has a central position in the CPEC, is facing inconsistent supply of electricity. This problem has been greatly improved before, but it has not been completely solved.
Chairman NEPRA said that a petition to approve tariffs for the 300 megawatts coal-fired power plant at Gwadar is pending before the Authority. “We will soon approve the petition after which the project will get going”, he said.
The federal government approved the project in January this year, which will be developed by a Chinese company.
The government has arranged a second electricity transmission line from Iran for Gwadar and has also connected Makran Division with the national grid. However, experts propose the 300MW coal-fired power plant as the only sustainable solution to the issues of power supply in Gwadar.
