Embankment of Suki Kinari dam site completed

ISLAMABAD, May 16 (Gwadar Pro) - In a landmark achievement, the embankment of the dam site of 880 megawatts Suki Kinari hydropower project has been completed.

A ceremony was held on Monday at the project site to mark the occasion. The embankment is a wall meant for stopping the water.

The $2 billion run of the river project is being executed in Mansehra district of KP province under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. China’s Gezhouba Group Co. is sponsoring and executing the project through S K Hydro Ltd. as an independent power producer.

As per the work schedule, the dam will start impounding the water in August. Efforts are currently underway to complete the remaining tasks as quickly as possible in order to achieve the milestone ahead of schedule. The concrete lining of the head-race tunnel and steel lining of the penstock tunnel are underway at fast pace. Once these are completed, the reservoir works will be finished, according to a source.
