GB government commends POWERCHINA for creating jobs for locals

GILGIT,Apr.27(Gwadar Pro) - The Water and Power Department of Government of Gilgit Baltistan (GB) in a letter of appreciation has hailed POWERCHINA’s Diamer Basha Dam Project (DBDP) for its outstanding contribution and improving local residents’ lives in Pakistan.

“This is for Section-2 POWERCHINA, the contractor of Diamer Basha Dam Project. I would like to express my sincere admiration for your team’s outstanding contribution for this project and jobs provided for local employees to improve their lives. Your cooperation, attitude towards local government and local community are highly appreciated,” reads the letter of appreciation issued by Chief Engineer.

Earlier this month, POWERCHINA announced 190 jobs at DBDP for local communities. POWERCHINA regularly provides jobs to people from the site area. In December 2022, the company had employed 208 skilled and technical professionals at the project sites. The company also conducted skill competitions among its local employees to enhance their skills.

DBDP is being constructed on River Indus, which is scheduled to be completed in 2028-29. POWERCHINA in a JV with FWO is constructing the MW-1 Dam of the project. The Project will have a gross water storage capacity of 8.1 MAF to irrigate 1.23 million acres of additional land. With an installed power generation capacity of 4,500 MW, the project will provide more than 18 billion units per annum to the National Grid.
