HEC announced scholarships for students from Gwadar & adjacent Coastal areas

ISLAMABAD, Apr.17 (Gwadar Pro)- The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has announced the Coastal Region Higher Education Scholarship Program (CRHESP) for the undergraduate students of the coastal region of Balochistan including Gwadar.

The scholarship program is another government initiative aimed at equipping students from Gwadar and other coastal areas with modern skills to find jobs in the projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other labor markets.

 Under the program, 200 students will avail of the scholarships in BS studies programs in the HEC-recognized public and private sector universities and degree awarding institutions (DAIs) in four batches.

The aspirant students must have completed 12 years of education with at least 50% marks in SSC and HSSC equivalent from a college/institute located in any coastal areas of Balochistan including Gwadar, Lasbela, Hub, Kech (Turbat), or Awaran districts.

The successful candidates will earn up to Rs. 240,000 per year for their tuition fees and other charges. They will also get a living allowance of Rs. 15,000 per month with a book and traveling allowance of Rs. 30,000 per year. The scholars shall be paid a maximum of Rs. 5000 monthly if the hostel is not available at the university from the head university charges.

The federal and provincial governments of Balochistan have given special focus to the studies of Balochistan particularly Gwadar and other coastal areas to bring the youth of these areas to par with the rest of the country. Several educational institutions are being set up under the umbrella of CPEC to provide quality education technical and vocational education to the students of Gwadar. The University of Gwadar (UG) has recently awarded its students with the Chinese Ambassador Special Scholarship; the Pak-China Technical & Vocational Institute (PCTVI) and UG also run free short courses in fields related to the Shipping Industry.

Similarly, earlier this month, UG entered into a collaboration with TANG International Education Group, China for the enrollment of students and employees for different online short courses in reputed universities and colleges in China.
