ISLAMABAD, Mar. 16 (Gwadar Pro) - The 2*660 megawatts Thar Coal Block-I (TCB-1) power plants topped the rank among all coal-fired power plants in Pakistan, as per the latest Economic Merit Order released by the National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) on March 1.

TCB-1 and the integrated coal mine in Block-I of Thar coal reserves are owned by Shanghai Electric.

The TCB-1 Power Project is running at full capacity with the most economical tariff cost. It's a model project of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), and it is a benchmark for optimal utilization of Thar Coal, the company said.

Ranking No. 1 means that TCB-1's generation cost is the lowest in the country, and it is the preferred power generation choice of the system operator, National Power Control Centre (NPCC), the company added.

According to the NTDC merit order, TCB-1 achieved the distinction within the first month of its operations. The power plants started commercial operations on February 5.
