Rs4.9 billion approved for Gwadar Safe City Project (Phase-1)

ISLAMABAD, Feb. 7 (Gwadar Pro) - As a major step towards the safety of the city, the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Monday approved Rs4.966905 billion for Gwadar Safe City Project (Phase-1). The project was one of the ten development projects that CDWP approved during its meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning Development & Special Initiatives (PD&SI) Professor Ahsan Iqbal.

The Government of Balochistan is the sponsoring agency of the Gwadar Safe City Project, envisaging to provide a safer city for the residents of Gwadar, particularly at the identified strategic locations, and also to help law enforcement agencies in detecting crime and investigating the crime by collecting evidence.

According to an official statement released after the meeting, Gwadar is a relatively unsafe city, with many western governments advising their citizens “against traveling” to the city. While the current infrastructure is insufficient to cater to the security needs of the port city, Gwadar safe city has been developed precisely to help all government stakeholders including city administration, Gwadar police and other Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) mitigate the security and communication challenges.

CDWP also approved another three projects for Balochistan including the Reconstruction of Turbat-Mand Road from M-8 to Iranian Border-Radeeq at a cost of Rs20,992.875 million, construction of Pun Panjgur-Gichak-Awaran Road, District Awaran at the cost of Rs29,638.353m and development of Ziarat Town at a cost of Rs5,558.545m.
