Higer’s pink buses to start operation from 1st Feb in Karachi
KARACHI, Jan. 27 (Gwadar Pro) – Higer, a Chinese bus manufacturing company will start operations of its Pink Buses from 1st Feb in Karachi. The service will be known as the “People’s Bus Service” and will feature pink buses.
According to Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, “the transport department government of Sindh is going to start Pakistan’s first bus service exclusively for women and girls. Pink buses will start their operation from 1st February in Karachi.”
The announcement came after the launch of Pakistan’s first-ever electric bus service in Karachi on January 13, which aims to reduce pollution and provide low-fare travel options for citizens.
“The China-made buses will improve the transportation system in Karachi, and the pink buses specially, will guarantee comfortable and safe public transportation experience for women,” said a local while talking to Gwadar Pro.
He said women in Pakistan usually face a lot of hassle travelling by public buses. But the pink buses exclusively for women will make their commute hassle free, economical and much safer. These buses should be common not only in big cities but also in smaller cities of Pakistan to make traveling easier and cheaper.
Higer bus entered the Pakistani market in 2008. Initially they sold a total of 115 passenger coaches and city buses locally. Last year the company customized 250 and 30 buses for the governments of Sindh Province and Islamabad respectively. The buses have taken a solid step to improve the public transportation system in both areas.
According to the company sources, the powertrain of the buses, with a gasoline-electric hybrid design, can ensure normal operation and promote sustainable development of urban transportation.
“Considering the high temperature in Pakistan, we have made research and development on the air conditioning system to meet the local needs. When the ambient temperature is 45 °C, the air conditioning system can lower the inner temperature to 23-25 °C within 30 minutes after the bus runs,” the sources added.
