GWADAR, Sept. 7 (Gwadar Pro) - A high-level delegation of Barrick Gold Corporation visited the city of Gwadar on Tuesday and held discussions with Chairman of Gwadar Port Authority (GPA) on ongoing projects and future business prospects in the city.
As per details, the delegation - led by Mike Nelson - visited the sites of Gwadar Port and Gwadar Free Zone. Chairman GPA Naseer Khan Kashani briefed the visitors on the Gwadar Free Zone model, which is being built on reclaimed land within the port area.
Barrick Gold Corporation is involved in Reko Diq, a copper-gold project in Balochistan. Earlier this year, an agreement was reached in principle between the government of Pakistan, the provincial government of Balochistan, and Barrick Gold Corporation to reconstitute and restart Reko Diq, which has been on hold since 2011. It will be operated by Barrick and owned 50% by Barrick, 25% by the Balochistan Provincial Government, and 25% by Pakistani state-owned enterprises.
Once completed, the Gwadar Free Zone will attract a number of globally leading enterprises and companies including Barrick Corporation, to invest in. Gwadar Free Zone is located at the gateway of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which is a flagship project of One Belt One Road. The zone will provide investment opportunities to businessmen, attracting new businesses and foreign investments in general trade, services, manufacturing, logistics, trans-shipment, and bunkering business.
