Pakistan can defeat poverty like China with concentrated efforts: PM’s aide

LAHORE, Oct. 24 (Gwadar Pro) - Special Assistant to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan (SAPM) on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection Dr Sania Nishtar on Saturday afternoon urged the nation to defeat poverty like China with concentrated efforts.

During her visit to 'Ehsaas (care)' registration Centre, she emphasized that both the government and the people have to jointly work to eliminate the menace of poverty.

Referring to China, she mentioned that focused efforts by the Chinese government and the determination of the Chinese people helped achieve the goal. "We can also achieve this goal (of poverty alleviation) with determination and focus like China," she remarked.

The SAPM reviewed the Ehsaas survey registration process during her visit. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, she said that different initiatives of 'Ehsaas Programme' which include Ehasas Kafaalat (care upbringing), Ehsaas Nashonuma (care growth), Ehsaas scholarships for children and others were linked with this survey.

She informed that a survey was carried out across the country and data was being collected from door to door with the use of the latest technology.

"The survey in Lahore will soon be completed while the survey across the country has been done," she added.

Sania Nishtar maintained that registration desks were set up in those areas where the survey process had been completed to reach those families where they were not covered by the survey teams.

She stressed that it was very important to make people aware of these registration desks so that they could access the desks to avail this facility.

The SAPM stated that after visiting the Ehsaas registration centre and interacting with the people here it was good to know that people had information about these centres.

She revealed that the cash payment process would start again next week for people who were newly included in the system.

SAPM disclosed that Pakistani Rs 260 billion had been set aside for Ehsaas programmes and Prime Minister Imran Khan would announce a separate budget for the upcoming Ehsaas targeted commodity subsidies programme.
