CPEC: Rs 250 billion KCR projects to be completed in three years, says Sindh Governor

KARACHI, Sept. 27 (Gwadar Pro) - China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)’s Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) project worth Rs 250 billion will be completed in three years, Sindh Governor Imran Ismael said on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to journalists here, the Governor informed that Prime Minister Imran Khan will visit Karachi today (Monday) to perform ground breaking of the Karachi Circular Railway project.

“The ceremony will be held at Cantonment Railway Station. The Karachi Circular Railway project will be completed in three years. The track of KCR comprises 43 kilometres and 16 stations will be set up,” he elaborated.

The Governor maintained that Green Line Bus Service will be operationalized next month and K-4 water supply project will be completed by the end of 2023.

On Friday, Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved a summary regarding the construction of infrastructure for the elimination of level crossings for the loop section of KCR.

The project envisages the construction of flyovers and underpasses along the route of KCR for the elimination of 22-level crossings. The rationalised cost of the project is Rs 20.71 billion on a cost-sharing basis. The project will facilitate the free movement of the KCR train.

KCR envisaged the construction of a 43km-long world-class affordable mass transit system using environmentally-friendly electric trains.
