China’s SPGEC-led JV awarded contracts for two sections of CPEC M-8
ISLAMABAD, Oct 3 (Gwadar Pro) - The National Highway Authority (NHA) has awarded SPGEC- HRK - SB (JV), a joint venture led by Sichuan Province Geological Engineering Complex, a contract for the construction of Section 2 (Package- 2C) of Hoshab-Awaran-Khuzdar section of M-8 aka east-west motorway, which is an important route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
NHA has signed an agreement for the construction of the project with the JV of Sichuan Province Geological Engineering Complex, HRK & Company, and Shah Builders. Earlier in June, the JV was declared as the most advantageous bidder by NHA for M-8 Project; Section II, Awaran Naal (Package-2C: KM: 260+000 to KM: 314+0000. Now both parties have signed the agreement.
As per the agreement, the contractor hereby covenants with the Employer (NHA) to execute and complete the works and remedy defects therein in conformity and in all respects with the provisions of the contract.
As per the documents, the contract award price is around eight billion and 88 million (Rs. 8,088, 836,798.
The JV of SPGEC- HRK-SB has also been awarded a contract for the construction of Hoshab Awaran Khuzdar Section 2 (Package- 2B) of M-8. The total length of the road is 168 kilometres between KM: 200:00 and KM: 260:00. It is apt to mention that initially the JV was disqualified but was later re-qualified under a decision of the Grievance Redressal Committee.
Meanwhile, NHA has awarded a contract for the Hoshab-Awaran-Khuzdar Section 2 (Package- 2A) to a JV of Pakistani companies namely Matracon Pakistan Pvt Limited and Construction Service Pvt Ltd.
Gwadar–Turbat– Hoshab (M-8) section of the motorway was completed under the CPEC umbrella in 2016 with an amount of Rs. 13 billion.
