Gwadar sets foot in distance education

GWADAR, Oct 22 (Gwadar Pro) -In the territory of south Balochistan, Gwadar sets its foot in distance education after it becomes the 54th regional centre of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), one of the largest and top distance education universities of Pakistan.  

Federal Minister for Education, Rana Tanveer Hussain, inaugurated the Gwadar Centre after attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the campus accompanied by AIOU VC Dr Zia ul Qayyum, Member National Assembly Muhammad Aslam Bhotani, AIOU DG Dr Touqeer and many social dignitaries.  

More than 30 thousand students from Balochistan are already studying at AIOU. After the inauguration of AIOU centre in Gwadar on October 21, locals of Gwadar will be able to do their studies without leaving their homes and jobs.

Apart from this, various other AIOU regional centres have also been developed in Sindh’s Moro, Mithi, and Sukkur, and in Punjab’s Attock, Chakwal, Jhang, and Sheikhupura, as well as in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). 

On the occasion, AIOU’s Vice-Chancellor, Dr Zia Ul-Qayyum, said that the objective of the expansion of AIOU’s network is to meet the educational requirements of those living in rural areas without any access to educational institutes.
