GWADAR, Sep.6(Gwadar Pro) - In a bid to improve the livelihood of Gwadar City's fishermen, three firms have been shortlisted for the purchase of 2000 speedboat engines by Gwadar Port Authority.

During a bidding process, seven firms competed with one another, laying down the final submission of their formal applications that stipulated their technical experience and professional capability on September 05. GPA (operation) picked three firms after evaluating their past successful ventures. The financial assessment will be held within 10 days. Afterward, the suppliers are required to provide 2 years of after-sale services.

Earlier in the year, PM Shahbaz Sharif announced the provision of 2000 boat engines to facilitate the local fishermen community and enhance their ability.

Gwadar Fishermen Association leader Khudadad Waju told Gwadar Pro that around 10000 fishermen are mostly below the poverty line. "Owing to old and poor engines, they risk going deeper in the sea to increase their fish catch. After handing over 2000 speedboat engines to destitute fishermen, their earning volume will get boosted indeed," he added.

On a query, he said that a speedboat engine is normally priced at Rs 0.4 million or Rs 0.5 million depending on quality and brand. "Impoverished local fisherman, given their worst financial status, can never buy speedboat engines on their own.” He praised government measures to give 2000 speedboat engines to them, allowing them to uplift their livelihood.

GPA Chairman Naseer Kashani said that the entire process of purchasing 2,000 motorboat engines for fishermen will be made administratively and financially transparent to make sure a high standard of public service delivery in a befitting manner. He said that the government's gesture of philanthropy for fishermen has won the hearts of the local people of Gwadar.
