Pakistan to mobilize collective actions to achieve SDGs: Munir Akram

BEIJING, Sept. 4 (China Economic Net)- Pakistan will continue to work with the world to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), said the permanent representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, Munir Akram on Saturday at the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS).

Speaking to a forum themed "2022 International Forum on South-South Cooperation and Trade in Services" Muir Akhram said that the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, food, fuel, financial emergency, and rising geopolitical tensions are all crises to be resolved for the 2030 agenda and the agreed climate change objectives.

"I hope that through this conference, new innovative ideas will be formulated for the exchange of expertise and technology and the promotion of investment through South-South cooperation to accelerate action, who wants to achieve the sustainable development", he mentioned.

The Global SSDC Project was jointly initiated by United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE).

"Enhanced investments in cooperation on sustainable infrastructures, such as green energy projects and infrastructure projects for sustainable industrial projects will be vital for the transition to a global greener future", he added.

During its ten-year journey, the China SSDC Project has achieved encouraging results in different areas, such as integrating South-South cooperation resources, strengthening public-private partnerships, and promoting economic and technical cooperation between China and other developing countries.

"South-South cooperation through technology transforms preferential concession plans, as well as capacity building and investment will play an important role in enabling sustainable infrastructure development in the global", Munir Akhram mentioned.

He further said these crises continue to disproportionately impact developing countries within the Global South and currently facing existential economic crises developing divide continues to widen between the North and the South, adding that multilateral cooperation and solidarity are the keys to overcoming global challenges. He said South-South cooperation as a complement to inoculate substitute for North-South cooperation must be strengthened in various ways.

"Infrastructure area which undergirds economies in various sectors such as energy, transport, agriculture, and others and impacts the achievement of 90% of the Sustainable Development Goals", the permanent representative of Pakistan to the United Nations told the audience.

He stated that developing countries now have the entire range of modern technical competence with centers of excellence in key areas to contribute to the development of sustainable infrastructure around the globe.
