Three new MoUs on CPEC signed during 10th JCC

ISLAMABAD, Sept. 24 (Gwadar Pro) - During the 10th meeting of the Joint Cooperation Committee (JCC) on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), both sides reviewed different areas of cooperation in existing projects and signed new agreements.

Addressing a press conference at the conclusion of the JCC meeting in Islamabad,  Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar said that the scope of CPEC is expanding with the passage of time and the importance of the projects is increasing. “Despite Covid-19, both countries continue to work on the CPEC projects,” he said.

According to Asad Umar, during the meeting, Pakistani IT Minister Amin ul Haq and his Chinese counterpart signed an MOU for the establishment of a Joint Working Group (JWG) in the Information Technology Industry.

Ningbo Port and Gwadar Port of Pakistan have also signed the “Framework Agreement”. “Gwadar is one of the most important projects for CPEC and the future of Pakistan and the agreement will help us further develop the port,” he said.

Karachi Coastal Development (KCD) signed an MOU with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC). The agreement would enhance facilities at Karachi port and other related areas, according to Mr. Umar.

Both sides also agreed on two projects of socio-economic development for Balochistan province. Exchange of Provision of Balochistan Solar Power Lighting Equipment and Provision of Medical Equipment and Material was also signed.

“We also discussed major infrastructure projects like motorways like their development and further commitment,” said Umar, “We also discuss how to take forward energy cooperation”.

He said one of the most important issues discussed during the meeting was “security” and both sides presented their point of view. “As CPEC is expanding and industrial investments are coming to our SEZs as well as to other areas, the importance of security is increasing.”

“Pakistan has devised comprehensive strategies to tackle the security situation,” he added.
