President Arif Alvi has said that China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will bring enormous opportunities to Baluchistan as the regional countries, especially Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, will use the corridor for exports and trade through Gwadar port.

He said, “The government is seriously focusing on the social and economic uplift of Baluchistan to bring it at par with other provinces of the country”.

The President expressed these views while addressing participants of the 7th National Workshop on Baluchistan.

While talking to the participants, Alvi emphasized that Gwadar port and various projects under CPEC will change a lot for the people of Baluchistan.

“The minerals and fishery sectors of Baluchistan have immense potential and the federal government is taking serious steps to utilize it for the benefit of the people of Baluchistan,” he added.

For the purpose of Central Asian connectivity, Prime Minister Imran Khan is leaving for Uzbekistan on July 13, 2021. During his visit, Pakistan and Uzbekistan will sign Transit and Preferential Trade Agreements.

Both countries have agreed to allocate dedicated spaces in Gwadar and Tashkent for establishing warehouses to help each other in the transportation of goods to other countries in the region.

The government of Pakistan and Prime Minister Imran Khan himself is focusing on road infrastructure, development of industrial and agriculture sector, provision of employment, and availability of basic facilities in Baluchistan.

Provincial and federal institutions are monitoring the work continuing on this year’s historic package for Baluchistan. About R 99.38 billion out of the total amount of this package worth R 654 billion would be spent on various projects during the current fiscal year.

The projects include transport, construction of basic infrastructure, provision of clean drinking water and its better utilization, agriculture and livestock, information technology, energy, industry and commerce, manpower and education and other development schemes.

CPEC is a source of new avenues of opportunities for Baluchistan. Baluchistan with regards to its geographical location is pivotal for CPEC since Gwadar has a central position in the entire project.

It is believed that the project will potentially contribute to the development of the whole province and is likely to address its interlinked economic and social problems.
