ISLAMABAD,Jun.28(Gwadar Pro) - As Pakistan witnessing a positivity rate of below 2 percent consecutively over the last few days, credit goes to Chinese vaccines for their efficiency and perpetual supply during 18 months in 2020-21.

If all goes well, Chinese vaccines—Sinopharm, Sinovac, Cansino, are going to play an anchoring role in reducing the rate further lower and even will help Pakistan combat the expected 4th wave of a pandemic in July.

Dr. Shehnoor Azhar, a senior doctor at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) said that China was the first country that donated the Sinopharm vaccine to Pakistan at a time when no one came forward as a savior. "Beside generous donation from China, Pakistan purchased millions of doses of Chinese Vaccines. The smooth and seamless supply of all three vaccines put Pakistan in a strong position to contain deaths to 22221 till June 29 (Sunday) in contrast to the fearful estimation of likely death toll to more than 0.1 million," he added.

"It is because of quality results of doses that more than 10 million people immunized by Chinese vaccine did not complain about serious health side-effects," he pointed out.

According to the Health Department, Pakistan, being the beneficiary of Chinese vaccines, is all set to receive three million doses of Sinovac on June 29 to continue to inoculate a large population in the country in July.

Abdul Majid, vaccinated by Sinopharm, told Gwadar Pro that his trust in China blossomed after not observing the slightest uneasiness in his body. "All my family members also preferred Chinese vaccines as we know that Chinese stuff is reliable," he said.

China became the first country in the world to have donated 0.5 million free doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Pakistan, setting up new standards of global leadership and humanitarian spirit that ensure early accessibility and affordability of vaccine, especially to South Asian countries.

The monumental show of humanity and friendliness has come into effect in line with Chinese President Xi Jinping's commitment that promises R&D, production, and distribution of vaccines to all countries. Guided by Xi's loud and clear message at World Economic Forum on global public health governance, China doled out the first batch of China-made Sinopharm vaccines to Pakistan on Feb 01, 2021.

An official of the National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (NHS, R&C) said that during the one-year pandemic, deadliness was on the rise in Pakistan. "The positivity rate of coronavirus tests in Peshawar reached 19.95 percent, the highest in the country, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC).  Peshawar was followed by Karachi, where the positivity rate stood at 17.73 percent. Even on May 17, 2021, Sindh government spokesperson, Murtaza Wahab expressed grave concern after the positivity ratio of coronavirus cases shot up to 24 percent in Karachi.

However it is the goodwill of Chinese vaccines that changed the situation from 24 percent to 2 percent, an official said.

According to NCOC, 100 million people out of Pakistan's total population of over 220 million are eligible for vaccination, and the country aims to inoculate them by mid-2022. Experts and officials believe that China's vaccine donation and uninterrupted vaccine exports have greatly helped Pakistan and many other countries in combating COVID-19.
