PM Imran Khan lauds President Xi Jinping’s leadership, thanks him for strong Environment Day message
Islamabad, June 7: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday afternoon lauded Chinese President Xi Jinping’s leadership and expressed gratitude for his strong message on World Environment Day, hosted by Pakistan.
In a tweet, PM Khan said: “I thank President Xi’s strong message on World Environment Day 2021 hosted by Pakistan reflecting our commitment to counter environmental degradation. We laud President Xi’s leadership in combatting climate change and biodiversity loss and his offer to step up cooperation on ecosystem restoration.”
Over the weekend, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the international community to work together with unprecedented ambition and action to strive for a fair and reasonable system of global environmental governance, featuring win-win cooperation, and to promote the sustainable development of humanity.
President Xi Jinping made these remarks in a congratulatory letter to the World Environment Day events held in Islamabad on Saturday. The event was hosted by Pakistan and addressed by Prime Minister Imran Khan and others.
“The international community should work together with unprecedented ambition and action to strive for a fair and reasonable system of global environmental governance featuring win-win cooperation and promote the sustainable development of humanity,” the letter received from Beijing read.
President Xi Jinping pointed out that Chinese civilisation had always valued harmony between humans and nature, and that ecological conservation has been incorporated into China’s overall plan for building socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan said through future green financing, Pakistan was proud to take a lead in the conservation of ecological systems and ensure a secure and liveable environment for its coming generations.
The Prime Minister said it was high time for Pakistan to value its natural resources to combat the consequences of climate change.
